3D Photos from your iphone

Jacob Hill - Sunday, March 13, 2011
This will be my first post on how to create a 3D Anaglyph image. in this project I am using the iphone 4 and Photoshop. But you can do this with any camera.

I have seen quite a few demo videos on www.youtube.com that take a very long winded way around doing it. This method is very simple.

The First stage is to take two photos. one for the left eye and one for the right eye. Simply Take a photo for the left eye then move your iphone to the right a bit and take a second photo. Tip. If you are close to your subject then only move your image a inch or so. The further away then move the phone about 3-6 inches to the right

Open both files up in photo shop. I am using CS1 - You will be able to do this is any Photoshop version above CS1

With the left image - Go to the Layers Window and Duplicate the layer. Call the Layer "Left"
With the right image  - Go to the file - Select all - Copy - Then go to your left image file and then Paste. Rename the New layer to "Right"
Simply double click on the "Left" Layer in the layer windows. This will bring up the Layer style window.
Simply Check off R in under Channels. Then Simply Click on the "Right" Layer Check off G B in under Channels.

Now you need to put some 3D glasses on - The Red filter over the left eye and the blue filter over the right eye.

Once you have done this then you can move the Top Layer around "Right" until you have got the desired effect.

Watch the Video for the simple instructions.

I have to try to learn more about these 3D techniques they seem so intriguing!
Matrimonio Torino commented on 20-Feb-2011 07:44 AM
Hi I'm an italian photographer it's really an interesting technique. Whhen you shoot the 3d images what kind of technique do you use?
2 shots one for the left, one for the right, or you can achieve the 3d effect using a software.
Thank you

Red Rose Print on Canvas at Fermoys Garden Centre

Jacob Hill - Thursday, August 19, 2010
We have just installed a multi panel red rose print onto canvas and another red flower at Fermoys Garden Centre in their Café.

The canvas print is made up of seven canvas panels. The total size of the print is 48x48 inches. There are four panels at 12x12 inches, two panels at 20x12 inches and then one large panels is 20x48 inches.

The idea was for us to advertise our business in the garden centre so that the general public can see the quality of our canvas printing and to create a focal point in the garden centre.

In the next couple of week we will be installing more canvas print samples on two wall near the exit of Fermoys checkouts.

After installing the prints I was quite pleased with how it transformed and crated a focal point in the café. Staff at Fermoys were also impressed with the installation.

You can visit Fermoys at: Totnes Road, Ipplepen, Newton Abbot, Devon. TQ12 5TN

Below are the photod of canvas prints at Fermoys.

I think this is an excellent marketing idea - providing relevant pieces of photographic artwork which can brighten up the premises of another business, whilst promoting your own.

the canvas combination is really nice, a perfect decoration.

That is freakin' cool! I love the rich, vivid colors, but I think the real genius is in how you split up the canvas sizes to give the overall scene more visual interest. Well done!

Bude Photo in 3d - Weekend Break

Jacob Hill - Sunday, June 20, 2010
Bude in Cornwall is a nice place for a weekend break and there are plenty of camp sites like the one we went to called Bude Holiday Park.
During our visit I decided to take some photos in 3D for experimental reasons and some of them have come out very well.

You will need to view the below images with 3D Glasses that are Red/Blue or Red/Green - Click on the picture icons to brows - Some of the images will be available as canvas prints
Bude Cliff TopBude CanalBudeCliff Top BudeBude Green
Bude beachBude CastleBude LightBlude FeildBude Sunset

  1. The first image is from a cliff top looking down in Bude. This image works well because there is a range of depth of field. If you find the ground out of focus, then adjust your focus with your eyes and it should then fall into place. - This will be sold as canvas prints
  2. The Next image is from a bridge in bude (Near Brendon Arms Pub and Falcon Hotel) looking down the canal were you can hire a rowing boat. The boats on the right come up well.
  3. The third image is another image of the canal in Bude
  4. There are some nice cliff walks around Bude this one looks down from a cliff top. The geology of the rocks are very nice to look at.
  5. The fifth image is looking over the green adjacent to Bude Golf Course.
  6. The sixth image is part of Bude Beach
  7. The seventh image is of Bude Castle. This image works well in 3D. The gates help bring the picture to life.
  8. The next image is just at the entrance if Bude Caste - This sculpture is called Bude Light. This photo works well in 3D.
  9. The ninth image is of some fields. This is just a short walk away from Bude Holiday Park.
  10. The last image is of a lovely sunset from Bude cliff tops. - This will be available as a sunset canvas print
Hope you enjoyed the 3d photo samples - More to come soon

These photos are great. I hadn't even heard of 3D effects with pictures taken with a DSLR. I'll have to look into it more. I was thinking of trying out infrared shots next but this may seem like a more interesting detour in photography to enjoy first.

Probably the longest Panoramic photo poster of Torbay in the World!

Jacob Hill - Sunday, May 09, 2010

Extra Long poster of Torbay - In Panoramic Format.

Just For Fun! The Image above was taken by myself from a spot near Brixham Harbour just a short walk from Furzeham Road / Shortfeild Lane. Some of the clouds looked quite dramatic I thought.

From left to right you can see a bit of Broadsands, Goodrington, Paignton, Preston, Torquay, Thatchers Rock and Brixham.

If I was to print this as a long poster, I could reproduce it at 8 meters wide by .5 meters high. (It could go up to 16 meters wide by 1 meter high for a road side graphic).

If You live in Torbay and have sea views then you may see your house on a larger version - The large image is still a smaller version of the final print but there is enough info to see various buildings and structures.

I Would like to print this picture out and put it up somewhere in Torbay for the public to view,
Any suggestions were! Please comment below or contact me.

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE (It may take time to load + Your browser my let you zoom in and out)

If I get enough interest I will be printing out some smaller ones at 200cm wide by 12.5cm deep - They will be printed, laminated and mounted onto 5mm Foamx  for only £59 each. If you are interested then please contact me at sales@scrivs.co.uk

Cheers Jake

Wow - the clouds are dramatic! I never thought I'd say it, but I actually miss the British weather... It changes every few minutes, so you're never bored....

Great panorama...

You could take it another day, at exactly the same time and it'd be equally interesting :)

Superb, deserves to be printed and hung in the town hall> Congratulations, it must have been a lot of work

8 meters wide! Wow that would be a big print! That's pretty interesting, I wonder if you had to stitch a lot of panoramic shots together to get that?
