Drum Scanning Services
There has been a drum scanner at Scriveners for the past 14 years.
Even though this service is a dying trade for traditional printing, we have found that over the past 5 years the scanning service has increased because of the Fine Art marked.
The scanner, when using ICC profiles can produce very accurate reproductions of water colour originals. So close is the match, at times our customers can't tell which is their original and which is the Giclée Print.
CMYK V RGB Scanning
For Traditional Litho Printing a cmyk image is required. For the simple reason that printing presses print using cyan, magenta, yellow and black (Also known as K for Key).
If set-up correctly, digital printers can produce a better in colour image from an RGB image when used in conjunction with a RIP.
The advantages of an RGB workflow and using ICC colour Management for digital print is that you will get better neutrals and a wider colour range on the final substrate.
However this also depends on the digital printer. For example a cmyk digital copier will still have a lower colour gamut that our Cannon IPF printer which has 12 different inks including RGB and CMYK.
Resolution of Scanned Images
When we supply you with a scanned image, we will scan it at the size you require at 304dpi (120dpcm)This will give you enough resolution for tradition print that is viewed at hand held distances.
